Do lots of reading
The less we know, the more we fear. Doing research and reading up on everything related and leading up to childbirth will not only help you anticipate the things that will happen but also put your heart at ease. Childbirth is sometimes made more excruciating because of the stress hormones we produce, so learning about what’s to come is going to help you a great deal.
Do some light yoga
Yoga makes for good practice because it requires you to breathe steadily no matter the pose. By harmonizing your breathing rhythm, you should be able to do the same during childbirth. Practising yoga is also good for releasing the tension in your lower back, which is wonderful because your lower back is going to ache immensely during childbirth.
Establish your support system
Surrounding yourself with people who care about you is crucial during childbirth. You will soldier through the ordeal by feeding off their energy unconsciously, so do not be afraid of asking someone you’re uncomfortable with to leave the room. Hiring a doula is also one of the best things you can do for yourself. Doulas are trained in helping you keep calm through the process and know the right things to say.
Summon your mental strength
Your body already knows what to do, so have faith that whatever you are feeling is natural and will pass eventually. Embrace the contractions; don’t fight them.
