Frequently Asked Questions

Time, Dates, and Locations

Q: What time does the workshop begin and where is it located?

A: The workshops will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 4:30 p.m. For a more detailed schedule, please check out the training agenda.

Q:  Will you be offering additional workshops in the future?

We are always considering additional workshops,  and will announce those here as soon as they are scheduled.

Q: I’ve registered for the workshop. Do you have any suggestion on where to stay?

Please check out the Chicago page as we will be updating it soon for places to stay that are nearby.  We highly recommend you make arrangements as soon as you register.

Workshop Fees

Q: How can I pay for the workshop?

A: You can pay online when you register. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. You can also use your PayPal account. You will see a charge from Nonprofit Marketing Guide (Kivi’s company) on your credit card statement. You can register here.

Q: Will you accept a check or purchase order?

We will also accept checks, although your spot will not be reserved until the check has been received. Please make checks payable to Ecoscribe Communications and mail them to 319 Becks Church Rd. Lexington, NC 27292, along with your name, organization and email address. Please email our workshop coordinator, Kristina Leroux, at kris@ecoscribe.com to let her know you are paying by check. If you need an invoice to get a check cut, please email Kristina.

We will also accept purchase orders; however, payment must be made before the workshop. We will invoice you immediately upon receiving the PO. Please contact Kristina if you need to use a purchase order.

Q: Are any scholarships or “sliding scales” available for the workshop?

We are not providing scholarships or any other financial assistance at this time.

Q: Do you offer group discounts if we plan on sending more than one person from our organization?

Because this is a limited seating event where we plan to give each attendee personal attention, we aren’t offering group discounts. If two people come, you’ll get that much more personal attention from Nancy and Kivi for your organization overall.

Deciding if This is Right for You

Q: This is the first time our organization is developing an official marketing plan. Is a certain level of expertise needed to attend the workshop?

Attendees need to be working in marketing and communications to benefit from the session. However, we expect participants to have a range of expertise levels and financial and staffing resources to support the implementation of a marketing plan. The survey you’ll be asked to complete after registering asks about these questions so that we can customize the workshop for you. You will also receive a pre-workshop assignment that will help you get started.

Q: Is it worth it to bring more than one staff member?

In 2010, we had several organizations that brought two or three members of their staff. They all thought it was a great opportunity to share the experience together and to move forward as a team.   The marketing plan you will be creating at this workshop will involve quite a few judgement calls and it would be best to have the major decision makers there.

Q: Our organization has separate target audiences we need to reach. Will this workshop help me market to each one or will I have to choose just one?

While we may ask you to focus on a single target audience for a particular exercise, the plan you develop during our workshop will address all of your target audience segments. Every nonprofit has multiple audiences, and you already have a jump on the process if you have clearly defined those segments!

Q: Is this workshop appropriate for consultants who work with nonprofit clients?

A lot of the marketing strategy we discuss will easily translate to your small business. But we think it will be best to create a strategy for a particular client as all of the examples and exercises will focus on plans for nonprofits.

Q: What’s the track record with this workshop?

Kivi and Nancy presented this workshop twice in New York City and once in Washington DC in 2010. In 2011, the workshop was presented in New York City and Seattle, WA.  The reviews from participants immediately after the workshop and on the follow-up calls were excellent. They both continue to stay in touch with many of the participants, and several have said it was the best training experience of their nonprofit marketing careers.

Other Ways to Get Marketing Plan Assistance

Q: Will recordings or notes be available since I am unable to attend this workshop in person?

At this time, we will be providing materials only to those attending the workshop. Kivi and Nancy both provide many free planning resources through their respective websites at NonprofitMarketingGuide.com and GettingAttention.org.
